As a professional copy-editor I provide a fresh pair of eyes and read your work from an objective point of view.  I will read thoroughly and carefully with an eye on language and content and look for ways to improve your text.  Whether by a simple correction to punctuation or substitue a word or phrase to enhance the understanding of the text.  I check that the format and style of the text is consistent with the requirements of the publication for which you are writing.  It is my job to make sure the text is free from factual errors or may be considered libellous. 

I will not rewrite your work and will always respect the tone, style and character of the original work.  Instead  I will flag up any awkward or confusing language and inconsistencies in queries that offer alternatives and suggestions for re-writes.  As the author you decide how much to change or to make no changes.

The SfEP states:

"A copy-editor makes sure that an author's raw text, or copy, is correct in terms of spelling and grammar and is easy to read so that readers can grasp his or her ideas.  A copy-editor also tries to prevent embarrassing errors of fact, alert the publisher to any possible legal problems and ensure that the typesetter can do a good job."
