Punctuation makes your writing more creative and effective – and nicer to read!
Whenever I write copy I sometimes break the rules of punctuation. Does it really matter? Perhaps not, but when I do it deliberately and know what rule I’m breaking (and why) then I think my writing is better.

I think writing is often more fun than reading (especially when a lot of reading is required to get my writing done).
A reader asked about the difference between a minus symbol and an N-dash (thanks Tem). I had to do a bit of homework on this. Unicode (the standard for electronically encoding text information) has separate encoding for the minus sign, hyphen and N-dash. Yeah, well, the F-bomb - it's become as ubiquitous as the word 'like.' People just throw the word 'like' around as punctuation. And I think in a lot of everyday speech, the F-bomb has become a kind of dash or a comma.
